What we know about the album Hy Brasil Br-Pop

This week we were surprised by the album Hy Brasil Br-Pop, a unique work by Ricardo Rangels. But, what is the concept of this work?

The album HBBP is a work focused on the musicality of the Brasilian language. In this work, the author revisits old songs inspired by the region of the São Francisco Valley between Petrolina and Casa Nova, his hometown in the interior of Bahia.

When asked about his work, Rangels replied:

"This work is a tribute to Brasilian music and my roots. I've always been afraid to express myself in my native language, because I always thought my voice was weird, in the sense that it was very different from all the artists I listened to.

For this reason, I always preferred to sing in English so that my neighbors wouldn't realize it was me singing.

I also like to listen to my songs, but I prefer that the voice doesn't sound like mine. This gives me the impression that I'm listening to another artist, and this helps me overcome my shyness about people recognizing me, and it's also really cool.

Despite this, there was a lack of an album focused on the Brasilian language, and that's the goal of this album. It's a rediscovery of the beauty of this interesting language that is the sixth most spoken language in the world.

It's also the happiest and most humorous album I've ever made, featuring old, poetic and relaxing themes, all mixed with the sound that I've always wanted to create and innovate.

The name Hy Brasil has two meanings. One refers to the legendary island of Irish legends, a land without evils, which may have been one of the origins of the name Brasil. It really does make sense, after all, Brasil is indeed a paradise, despite having some challenges to overcome.

But, on the other hand, Hy Brasil also refers to the English greeting Hi, as if I were saying Hi, I'm here, I'm Brasilian. I also sing in Brasilian, as well as speaking to foreigners. This is also Brasil with different sounds beyond the stereotype.

The name Br-Pop also has two meanings. The first is to oppose B-Pop, Brasilian pop with little content and a lot of sexuality. So Br-Pop is different. It's a revival of a highly crafted pop with positive, happy, humorous, and intelligent lyrics, with the addition of an R that can refer to rationality and reason."

Well, we have already heard the man, now let's talk a little about the album:

Hy Brasil Br-Pop is divided into 4 parts. In the first, we have the songs Apesar dos Pesares (Despite the Sorrows), Cachorro Louco Louco (Crazy Crazy Dog), Nunca Corra Atrás (Never Look For), Dois Cubos de Gelo (Two Ice Cubes), Sussurros e Olhares (Whispers and Glances ), and Tantos Copos Vazios (So Many Empty Cups).

In the second part, we only have the song Opárá Opárá, a song that mixes verses in Brasilian and English, as well as the indigenous word Opárá that gives the name of the São Francisco River, an important river that passes through several Brasilian states. This song is a tribute to the river and the region of the São Francisco River Valley.

Then we have the third part with 3 songs in English but with popular Brasilian fruits such as Açaí, Cupuaçu and Mango. They are all positive songs with a theme of happiness, which represents Brasil well.

And finally, we have the most danceable Hy Brasil that gives the album its name. This song is a declaration of love for being Brasilian, citing Brasil as a mixture of various peoples, nations and cultures. In fact, it is the most vibrant and joyful song on this album.

Conclusion

HBBP is a very interesting, creative and joyful album, in which you can listen to 11 songs in half an hour without getting bored or falling into monotony, an album that goes from danceable to relaxing and where you can appreciate all the richness and beauty of the Brasilian language with positive, humorous and happy lyrics. This is certainly one of the best albums that represents Brasil.
